VEZILKA coorganizes Macedonian Language Day workshop

On May 5th — the Day of the Macedonian Language — at the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering we coorganized a workshop dedicated to the future of the Macedonian language in the era of AI and digital transformation.

The event brought together representatives from the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, professors, Macedonian language scholars, linguists, researchers and students — creating space for a meaningful interdisciplinary discussion on the role of the Macedonian language in modern AI technologies.

Through a shared discussion, we explored the key challenges and opportunities: the digitalization of the Macedonian language, its representation in language models and the need for close collaboration between the technical and social sciences.

The workshop was opened with an address by Prof. Dr. Petre Lameski, Dean of FCSE.

This was followed by inspiring talks from:

🔹 Prof. Dr. Simona Gruevska-Madzoska — on the Macedonian language and emerging technologies

🔹 Prof. Dr. Dimitar Trajanov — on the VEZILKA project and the development of LLMs for the Macedonian language

🔹 Assist. Prof. Dr. Nikolche Mickoski — on language resources and corpora for the Macedonian language

💫 A huge thank you to all participants for the inspiring conversations, ideas, and support in building this shared vision.
